THE KENTUCKYS Rumba Bar demos part 2 with a real surprise : Vater Weiler speaks

The Kentuckys in Frankfurt. A photosession for their first 7" record. The band in the infamous bolero suits and Peter and Manni with their hair dyed platin blond. Minutes later they all ended up in the pool.

This is probably the last batch of recordings by this particular Wuppertal gang which I’m going to upload. If you really want to know more about The Kentuckys, the most comprehensive and extensive band history is in hartbeat! (issue 21). Loads of anecdotes and otherwise unpublished pictures. And the mag comes with a free 7” record also, although not featuring The Kentuckys.

The band on these recordings is the definite Kentuckys line-up: Bernd “Rocky” Zindars on drums, Peter Paul Frohn, lead guitar, Manfred Weiler, rhythm guitar, Bernd Weiler, organ, and Peter Zadina on bass. A tough rockin’ outfit, playing monthly residences between 1963 and 1968.

The Kentuckys were sheer madness. They were a real crazy lot, no prank was too insane or embarrassing for them not to perform it. They were real hardcore nuts, also musically.

Here we’ve got a real surprise for you:  a message by father Weiler. He managed the band up to a certain point. Mother Weiler meanwhile was busy sewing the band’s stage clothes… such as the infamous Bolero outfits.

Und hier noch links zu einem Peter Zadina Interview von 1997 (für die Kentuckys-Story in hartbeat! 21)

NEDERBEAT 5 – Dutch Diamonds

Okay, here we go with another compilation of Dutch Beat era recordings. All so wonderful. I actually love this music! I remember signs like “Geen fietsen plaatsen” which way back then made our day. Apart from Amsterdam, the Dutch coastal resorts were the place to go with live music in numberless clubs. We would sleep in hotels, greenhouses, cars, wherever we could rest our heads, just to be there, to breathe the air, to get the vibrations so undescribable. Everything was so different to where we came from, at least we thought so, but maybe it was only a dream. Anyway, we were thrilled, something that determines youth. I cannot build a statue big enough for those Dutch bands, the clubs, the aura. Thank you. Also for the broodjes met tartaar. Yet not for arresting me at 2 o’clock in the night for knocking off my urine against a wall. There are more Nederbeat compilations on this blog, just browse older posts.
