Finally here it is! I’ve been promising to upload this to some people… The Power Pop compilation #1 – the remaining part of the double CD Power Pop compilation mosaic.
When I began to compile this double CD it was a way of starting to get my Power Pop albums compiled and come to terms with what I’ve been collecting for years.
For #1 it was the CDs, and you’ll find one track per album only which has always been the masterplan – you’ve got to detect the rest yourself.
Ask me for a favourite track and I’d point my finger at MONSTERS UNDER THE BED’s “Fingerbone”. It just perfectly sums up everything that Power Pop means. But each and every track on this double album would be a worthwhile contender.
I’m a German guy and it’s always been a mystery to me, why German bands could not do Power Pop, with the rare exception, it always came out as Middle Of The Road Pop music or what we call “Schrammelpop”. They never had the guitars and the backing vocals that defined Power Pop. And they’d never come up with a chorus like in THE HIPPYCRICKETS “Matter Of Time” or SPINNING JENNY’S “Daisy’s Young”.
