DRIVIN’ SIDEWAYS unreleased demo Garage Rock 1980

DRIVIN’ SIDEWAYS unreleased demo

Garage Rock 1980

Well, here’s another demo tape which I received way back then and which I have just found in one of my boxes.

The band Drivin’ Sideways was from Hampshire, probably from Portsmouth.

Great Garage Rock recorded about 1980.

Simon Tufnail is still active as musician.

There isn’t much I can tell, but I hope you enjoy the music. It’s really something…

1.    INTOXICATION ATMOSPHERE

2.    RED LIGHT

3.    ALWAYS

4.    WALKING ON THE EDGE

The band even had badges made

ROBIN JONES Vocals and Harmonica

BERNIE WRATTEN Guitar & Backing Vocals

ALAN BLACKMORE Drums a´& Backing Vocals

SIMON TUFNAIL Bass

All songs except Track 4 by DRIVIN’ SIDEWAYS. Track 4 by Wilko Johnson.

Heard of ... THE KINGBEEZ

Hey, I’ve just found this cassette with some demos by a German Garage band that never made it big or even small.

However, there’s something to the tunes of this 3rd division Garage band: 12:56 minutes of good time music.

1. Leading me on

2. Teenage devil

3. Don’t go

4. Cruel babe

THOMAS KNIEF: Gesang, Elektro-Gitarre

German Punk & New Wave 1

vol. 1

GERMAN BY MIDNIGHT

I’m in the process of reducing my 70s and early 80s record collection – mainly Punk and New Wave and Art Rock – as I have done with my 60s records. Now it’s time for some German products.

I am also quite thrilled to listen to what I find in my record boxes. That is why I have decided to compile a couple of tunes on special CDs. All these tunes are up for sale. Let me know if you’re interested before the officially appear with a price tag on discogs in the near future (and naturally more, but I’ve still got to compile a selection of them).

The German underground music scene in the late 70s and early 80s was something special. Unlike the British Punk scene it was not triggered by social protest and anti-Thatcherism, but rather developed from an art school scene. Germany in those days was liberal to a high degree, and thus the recorded output was mostly different from those Anglo-American counterparts – however, a few critical lyrics sneak in. But they never questioned the general state of things. Being bored was a more prominent topic.

Enjoy German sounds for a start: More will follow.
