No nonsense Rock ’n’ Roll - RADIO STARS rockin’ the Beeb
Radio Stars weren’t taken seriously by the Punk followers, but they were a unique band. Nobody in England played their blend of Rock’n’Pop, although the stressing should be on Rock. When their record releases sounded stylish and polished, their live sound was incredible. They were loud, roguish, even aggressive. Andy Ellison was a born showman who had come from John’s Children (I still have their “nude poster” on my wall) to Jet and his stage antics are not only legendary, but resulted in broken bones, open wounds, bashed elbows. No speaker or lighting rack was too high for him. That he wore skater kneecaps on stage was a result of the damages he’d done to his knees on stage.
I accidentally came across this cassette tape in my collection, and when I gave it a play, I was blown away by the energy, the heaviness of this band. I checked for releases of the two concerts recorded here, but couldn’t find any. That’s why these two shows (which probably date from early 1978 and autumn 1978) still have to see the light of day. Here They Are.
Radio Stars rockin’, hollerin’, and generally blowing the roof off the studio. This is full power Rock ‘n’ Roll!
