The Kingdom of Freakesy now spans from Canterbury to Los Angeles – remember we are flying westwards. It’s the good old Rock’n’Roll with a pinch of Art Rock thrown in. Some of the musicians compiled here are still active, some sadly listen from above.

05. CAPTAIN BEEFHEART & HIS MAGIC BAND    GIMME DAT HARP BOY (if there ever was a Freak, the Don was it)

06. HENRY COW   TEENBEAT (Fred Frith & Tim Hodgkinson = Canterbury Freaks)

07. GORILLAS    IT‘S MY LIFE (Jesse‘s not just a hairstyle Freak, but also one for the bounteously chequered trousers)

08. THE AUTEURS    BUDDHA (Freak Luke Haines again!)

09. GENE VINCENT and his BLUE CAPS    CAT MAN (50s‘ Norfolk, Virginia, leather Freak with a serious bad leg and an unequalled lead guitarist)

10. THE RESIDENTS    VIVA LAS VEGAS (anonymous eyeballing Freaks Elvising)

11. BLACK BOX RECORDER    UP TOWN TOP RANKING (Freak Luke H. and band dare to cover Althea & Donna‘s anthemic tune: “nah pop nah style, I strictly roots“)

12. KIM FOWLEY    CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE (L.A.s madcap and freakiest of Freaks)
