The Team Beats came from Düsseldorf, Germany, and were originally a 4-piece band - 2 guitars, bass and drums. For a couple of months they extended the line-up to 5 players – this was often a result of the booking landlord wanting five musicians on stage for whatever reason. Thus contracts in Germany often stated that the band must comprise of five musicians including a bandleader and the band had to be on stage from 7 in the evening to 1 in the morning with a quarter of an hour break after each 45 minute set. Bands often recruited an additional member who played nothing but the tambourine all night, just to meet the landlord’s demand.
The 5-piece TEAM BEATS recorded themselves on a simple stand alone tape recorder, but knew that good microphones were essential. Thus the sound quality is quite good. Using two microphones we get a proper stereo sound. The tape has suffered a bit over the years, so there are drop outs and distorted passages. Nevertheless this is an A1 example of a band who played 6 or 7 days a week in monthly residences from 1963 to 1967. They were an old school band, raised on the Indo band sound, thus effect pedals like a fuzz box were a no-go! Here you get a pretty crisp Fender guitar sound.
